What Is Reiki? |
Reiki
is a hands-on energy healing system of great power and simplicity. The Japanese word
"Reiki" has been commonly translated as "Universal Life-force
Energy." While this is a valid interpretation, it is more accurate to
translate Reiki as "spirit" or "an atmosphere or feeling of
mystery." For me, this is the mystery of the human spirit and our
connection on an energetic level to our World and our Cosmos. Reiki helps us open
more deeply to an awareness of this connection and to an understanding of the nature of
our Spirits.
Reiki traces it's history to
Japan, where it was founded by Mikao Usui around the turn of the 20th century. The
art of Reiki has since spread throughout the world bringing healing and awareness to
many people.
To understand this
healing system one must first understand the concept of "Ki" (equivalent to the
Chinese "Chi," the Hindu "Prana" or Wilhelm Reich's "Orgone
Energy"). Ki has been defined as "energy, air, breath, wind,
vital breath, vital essence." Ki is within us and around us. It is
the essential life-force of the Earth, the planets, the stars, the heavens, and all
life forms. As a part of their training, Reiki practitioners receive attunements
which open their energy channels and increase their capacity to receive and transmit
Ki. While everything that has life has Ki, a Reiki attunement connects the
practitioner in an increased way to this limitless source.
There are two ways
to experience Reiki. You can experience Reiki by receiving a session
from a Reiki practitioner or you can learn to be a Reiki practitioner by receiving
Reiki attunements and training.

Benefits of Reiki |
Your
body-mind-spirit has natural wisdom which constantly strives for the state of
balance and optimal functioning known as homeostasis. Injuries &
trauma, physical, psycho-emotional and spiritual, can impair the body's
ability to achieve homeostasis, resulting in dis-ease. Reiki works with
your natural wisdom to promote vitality, balance, peace and wholeness on the physical, emotional, mental &
spiritual levels.

REIKI TRAINING |
As a Reiki Master, it is my privilege & joy to share
Reiki with others both as a practitioner and a teacher.
The path of Reiki has been a sacred one for
me. I could not begin to enumerate the many
blessings that Reiki has brought into my life. It
has been my great delight to discover that my experience of Reiki continues to grow
and deepen over time. My relationship to Reiki has been an unfolding one, which continues
to take me further into the realms of healing and to expand my connection with the Great
Mystery.
REIKI - LEVEL I
Reiki - Level I is an introduction to this simple, yet
powerful hands on healing system. In this class, you receive Reiki attunements, which open
your energy field to the healing flow of Reiki. You learn hand positions for
self-healing and explore basic principles of healing. There is an organic,
experiential approach to building your relationship with Reiki. This level of Reiki is
focused on using Reiki for self-healing, a wonderful healing gift we can give ourselves.
REIKI - LEVEL II
Reiki - Level II deepens your relationship with
Reiki. In this class, you receive attunements for Level II, which
further enhance your capacity to be a channel for Reiki energy. Learn hand positions
and techniques for sharing Reiki with others, work with the Reiki symbols and practice
Reiki remote healing. Class combines lecture, discussion and experiential
approaches. Prerequisite: Reiki I
At present, I primarily teach Reiki I
& II individually in the context of a Transformational Partnership.
Contact Ananaia for more information.
REIKI MASTER-TEACHER
Reiki Masters is an opportunity to deepen your commitment to the
path of healing service. When engaged with sincerity and intention, the Reiki Masters
attunements bring us into a heightened connection with Spirit and the energies of the
Cosmos. From this ever-deepening place of connection, we can allow our understanding of
healing, transformation and balance to evolve and grow organically. Upon completion
of the Master-Teacher level, you are empowered to pass Reiki attunements and share
training with others. A very sacred gift to share.
For me, becoming a Reiki Master was a deep and
sacred step in my journey on the Path of the Healer. I generally teach as part of a
healing mentorship journey or in the context of an extended healing class. If you are
interested in studying Reiki Masters with me, please feel free to contact
me.

A Brief History of Reiki* |
Mikao Usui was born on August 15, 1865 in the Gifu
district of Japan. He created a system of natural healing that had its roots in Taoism,
five element theory and traditional Chinese medicine but with some elements of Tendai
Buddhism.
After spending
many years in his search he meditated at Kurama Yama in the region of an energy
"hotspot". He is said to have sat there for 21 days after which he was given the
information that he sought to complete his system.
He then spent
seven years in the poor district of Kyoto and then opened a school in Tokyo, where he
passed on the information to sixteen students before dying on March 9, 1926 in Fukuyama.
He was not a doctor as some have claimed; his title was Sensei (teacher). The names
of some of these students are known. There were three naval offices: Taketomi, Hayashi and
Ushida (Giuda). His principal student was Eguchi who studied in 1923.
Chujiro Hayashi
was born in 1878 and took the training in 1925. He used the knowledge to open a healing
clinic in Tokyo. Hayashi developed a set of hand positions suitable for clinical use of
the system; his clinic employed a method of healing that required several practitioners
work on one client at the same time to maximize the flow of energy.
As well as
training his practitioners, Hayashi trained several people to teach the system. One of
these was a Japanese American from Hawaii named Hawayo Takata. She had turned up at his
clinic with a terminal illness, which was later cured. She was made a teacher/master (one
of thirteen) on February 21, 1938. Her teacher/master certificate is notarized in Honolulu
and does not confer the title of Grand Master.
Hayashi also
trained a man named Tatsumi who died on October 2, 1996 at an age of over 90 years.
Tatsumi had kept notes of his training and allowed tracings to be made of his symbols and
sketches.
Takatas
successors spread the system throughout the West. However, over time the teachings have
become modified and have lost much of their original focus. In Japan a group of dedicated
teachers have revived the original teachings, which are now being taught in the U.S. by
the Traditional Japanese Reiki Association. Traditional Japanese Reiki is a close
reconstruction of Usuis original system and is based on material provided by
Tatsumi-sensei.*
My Reiki classes
will provide attunements in the method of Reiki brought to America by Ms. Takata. This
Westernized style is commonly referred to as the "Usui Shiki Ryoho method of
Reiki". The two systems are compatible and can be effectively blended together.
The training in my classes will incorporate information from both systems.
* My thanks to the Traditional Japanese Reiki
Association for providing the preceding historical information
