Heart,
Meaning & the Inevitable Opening
by Ananaia O'Leary

Hearts beat and the clash of flesh on rib cage
startles and sends us careening away from the danger of vulnerability, tenderness, mercy,
and the exposure of our authentic bellies.
Breathe deep, listen to the heartbeat.
It is calling you. As sure as drums call
men to war, your heart is calling you. Slow your breathing, matching rhythm for rhythm
feel the pulse of your heart in your belly
breathe-beating, belly-beating
stilling into the rhythm your body was born to honor.
Breathe deep in the stillness.
In this moment, in this dread silent moment
when words fail, reason falters and only touch and presence are true
lies the
fresh, raw nature of existence, stripped of all pretense
face to face with the
power of the authentic heart.
Breathe
breathe deep, open to what
has heart and meaning.
Let your heart-truth rise up within you
not merely a litany of words ~ but resonance, full-felt in the fierce intimacy of the
immediate moment. Embrace the critical core
that marrow-deep essence that cannot,
will not be denied.
Breathe deep, join with the primal juice of
your being.
Sap rises ~ bone-to-bone, blood-to-blood,
belly-to-brow. Passion rises ~ fiber-to-fiber
form-to-form
life-force is
moving, leaping synapses in an ecstasy of connection, the re-membering of fractured parts.
Breathe, pay attention to the spaces
between.
Watch as these spaces fade and
distinctions like here and there
then and
now
you and me ~ unravel
unwind
return from form to source
raindrops rippling the still waters on their passage
from sovereignty to oneness.
Breathe, rest at the still-point of the
universe. Open to the infinite.
